About PlayCompat & Verification Methodology

PlayCompat was built to eliminate the single most frustrating moment on game night: getting 4 friends into a Discord voice channel, buying a game, and discovering 20 minutes later that PC and PS5 lobbies are segregated.

Our 3-Layer Verification Framework

Most gaming blogs write generic articles answering "Does game X have crossplay?" with a simple yes or no. We maintain a living database evaluated across 3 distinct truth dimensions:

🏪 Layer 1: Storefront Network Isolation

We do not treat "PC" as a monolithic platform. Games like Deep Rock Galactic, PlateUp!, and Human Fall Flat connect PC Game Pass to Xbox, while Steam is completely quarantined. We explicitly evaluate Steam, PC Game Pass, and Epic Games Store as separate entities.

🎯 Layer 2: Mode-Level Platform Restrictions

Crossplay is frequently asymmetric between game modes. Games like Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 allow full crossplay in Campaign and PvE Operations, but strictly wall off PC players from console pools in competitive PvP (Eternal War). We tag mode boundaries explicitly.

⚠️ Layer 3: Setup Caveats & Account Friction

We record third-party account requirements (Epic Games Account, Microsoft Account, EA App, SHiFT), alphanumeric join codes, cross-save conditions, and dedicated server requirements so you know the friction before you buy.

Editorial Independence & Data Updates

All compatibility data in PlayCompat is manually curated and verified through developer patch notes, platform technical test sessions, and community feedback. We update the dataset continuously as new patches roll out.
